Hello! And welcome to my photography site! My name is Mai (which is pronounced "may" ...like the month after April). I recently moved to the Portland, OR area of Washington from Upstate New York. And I must say, the Pacific Northwest has got to be the most beautiful place on earth! Being surrounded by such beauty inspired me to turn my favorite hobby into a career. Taking pictures is my passion. And showing people just how incredibly beautiful they are and can be is my specialty.
That's right, Folks... I ♥ Shooting People.
It all started way back in 1982. My favorite grandmother decided to make my 5th Birthday wish come true, and she purchased a Polaroid camera and some film for me. I didn't get to do too much, as the film cost a fortune ($10 for a 10 exposure roll). Even now, 27 years later, well.... let's just say "Thank God for Digital!" I carried that camera around a lot, framing anything and everything I could as a practice for my next big allowance push for film. But before long, it was obvious I needed something better... and less of a financial burden. Not until the digital age of photography did I find satisfaction. But with all technology has to offer now, it was well worth the wait.
A few years into letting this passion adequately unfold, I finally have the means to take it all to the next level: Professional. I prefer to shoot on location. My distinct candid style thrives when the people I'm shooting are comfortable. People posed in pictures isn't something that artistically makes sense to me. Who really stands/sits like that? Also, by shooting primarily on location as opposed to in a studio, I can keep costs low for my clients. I aim to bring out the real beauty in every person I photograph. And to date, according to my clients, I've done so every time.
I'm available for individual, couples and family portraits, special events, pets, childrens' birthday parties, graduations, anniversaries, engagements, and offer specials for social networking/internet sites (Facebook/MySpace/Online dating, etc). I also aim to please with modeling portfolios, Baby's First Year and corporate/business identity. I am available for weddings only as a second shooter (feel free to contact me for more information).
